THOMAS Residence
Goals: The Thomas’ directed us to make something extremely natural. They wanted to feel as if they were hiking in Craggie Gardens while walking in their backyard.
Challenges: The backyard was extremely flat and in a very urban neighborhood and did not have any feature resembling Craggie Gardens.
Results: We created an elevation change by making a raised berm in the center of the main area, in which we added boulders and large native Rhododenron and an assortment of other native species. This allowed us to create a woodland path, which wrapped around the bermed area. Jill Haynie was brought on to create her specialty, a very natural waterfall that looked as if it had been there forever.
